The Long Song of Chang'an

Dark Small Medium Large Original Scroll to Bottom

Her throat is hoarse from shouting, her heart is numb with pain, an unprecedented shame engulfs her entire being. Unfortunately, even if she were to jump into the Yellow River, she could not wash away her innocence. The palace is vast, yet human hearts are small. She will be branded as a thief, living her entire life under the strange gazes of others

The tail of the magpie lantern is long, the belly of the carp lantern is big, and there is also that rabbit lantern, whose eyes resemble yours.

Qing'er lamented: "You are too young to understand, being beaten and scolded by a man, at least there is a man involved. If I could be married off, I would willingly endure both the morning beatings and evening scoldings."

"Pah! How can such nonsense be brought up? Your future will inevitably be ruined by that mouth of yours." Lü Silang retorted in anger, "What is there to admire about that yellow-haired girl? Can she even be compared to the noble concubine? The noble concubine is like a celestial fairy, unparalleled and beyond reach, while she is merely a withered morning glory on the ground, easily bullied by everyone. If it weren't for that pitiful, aggrieved face and her weak, easily oppressed nature, her father wouldn't worry about her being bullied, and I wouldn't even bother with her."

Though the two are so close to each other, they cannot speak, cannot lean on each other, and cannot love one another

Lu Liu'er glared at him and said, "You monkey, you think about selling me every day!"

The noble consort enjoys singing and dancing, often performing on stage in the pear garden. The sage even beats the drum and claps for her, so she does not mind others stealing glances at her beauty and praising her looks. As a result, many poems and verses praising the noble consort's beauty have circulated among the people. Unfortunately, Lu Liu'er holds a low position and resides near the cold palace, so she has never seen the noble consort.

After meeting the noble consort, Zhang Hua'er could not help but regard her as her own Bodhisattva, wanting to learn from her in every aspect. Lu Liu'er recalled Lu Silang's praises for the noble consort and felt a strange sense of envy, thus recklessly joining the ranks of those eager to learn.

The noble consort slightly furrowed her brows, then suddenly smiled: "Sanlang loves to jest, so I shall shamelessly praise this girl; she is truly beautiful."

Qing'er was dozing off, concluding with: "Only a woman as beautiful as the noble consort would capture the hearts of every man, wouldn't she? Only such a revered man as a sage would be fond of her, right?"

Lu Liu'er looked around, glancing left and right, and finally found a trace of her former appearance in the tall and lanky figure of the youth with a monkey-like thin face. Lu Silang immediately recognized the yellow-haired little girl with a frail and short stature and a face that looked like a punching bag as their former neighbor. Encountering an old acquaintance in the palace was indeed rare; they exchanged glances, and an indescribable joy gently wrapped around their hearts, causing them to involuntarily chuckle.

Perhaps it is because Lord Gao's smile is truly radiant

While on duty near the Eastern Palace of Shangyang, Fu, Lu Liu'er had the fortune to meet the reclusive and elegant Lady Mei. Although Lady Mei is not young and has a somewhat slender figure, she is exceptionally beautiful, and her every gesture exudes an indescribable elegance and scholarly demeanor. In her frowns and thoughts, she evokes a sense of pity that surpasses by a hundredfold the pretentious young ladies of the local gentry. It is said that she is also proficient in the arts of music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, making her a truly talented woman. Such a wonderful lady is indeed someone whom a sage would find it hard to part with.

It is easy to fall in love, but difficult to truly understand one another

Lu Liu'er looked at the mirror, feeling a mix of happiness and a bit of frustration

He wore a sword, sitting at the bow of the boat, gazing at the surging river waters, and suddenly spoke: "The sage holds deep affection and great importance for the noble consort, and the imperial favor remains unwavering, unmatched by ordinary individuals."

In the tenth year of the Tianbao era, a twelve-year-old peasant girl named Lu Liu'er from the outskirts of Chang'an was selected to serve as a palace maid in the Yeting.

Tears were constantly welling up in my eyes, but I dared not let them fall

Seven

The old palace maid scoffed: "If heaven has eyes, it should strike down those who commit sins, not those of us good people."

Lu Silang walked over from the pear garden with his guards, smiling, but upon seeing her on the stage, his smile froze on his face

Although the laundry bureau is difficult, as long as she lives her life honestly, no one will harm her again

The Lu family has been raising silkworms for many years, with dozens of acres of land. They were once wealthy, but last year, the elder brother got into a dispute with someone, resulting in a lawsuit. Although they won, they lost their family fortune, and life has become quite tight. Before the angel delivered the imperial edict, it was rumored that the fifth daughter of the Lu family was to be selected by the government to enter the palace. However, upon hearing that entering the palace meant she could never marry, the fifth daughter began to cry, make a scene, and even attempted to hang herself, causing a great commotion. The child who makes a fuss gets the candy; the mother has always favored the sweet-tongued fifth daughter and feared that her stubborn temper would bring trouble to the family if she entered the palace. Therefore, she spent money to pull strings and had the sixth daughter, who is two years younger, take her place in the selection.

Lu Liu'er felt the cold wind blowing in gusts, sending shivers down her scalp, creating a somewhat eerie sensation

The noble consort, in her great mercy, did not take Lu Liu'er’s life, but instead sent her to the laundry bureau to perform hard labor

Indeed, I bear the charge of exterminating nine clans," Lu Liu'er tenderly embraced the Golden Jade Bodhisattva, suddenly smiling, her brows and eyes reflecting the grace of the noble consort. She asked, "What crime do you lowly palace servants bear for your negligence, which allowed the thief to commit murder, resulting in the tragic death of the noble consort?"

Hello, Sir Lang, what are you looking at

The Grand Eunuch said again: "The Empress Dowager has summoned the young lady, please follow me to the Buddha Hall"

If there is a rope, she would hang on it without hesitation

What is happiness? What does she desire?

Because the noble consort is deeply loved by the sage, and the sage cannot bear for the noble consort to die, therefore she must die

Little Lu Liu'er, with hands clasped together, silently prays

General Chen Mingming and the soldiers are being asked to die, but it is the noble consort who is to be sacrificed

Speak louder

The gentle and gracious consort is surrounded by laughter and joy; she enjoys luxury, is generous, yet does not carry herself with arrogance. She possesses a variety of interesting ideas and topics, and being by her side brings endless happiness. In contrast, the Mei Consort is aloof and proud, only skilled in the arts of music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. She looks down upon even the simplest palace maids, as the world is filled with commoners, and she cannot tolerate a celestial being descending to the mortal realm. Spending too much time with her feels stifling. Now, having been cast into the cold palace, she always wears a sorrowful expression, clinging to her pride, refusing even the pearls bestowed by the sage. Who is she trying to impress with her pretentiousness?

Because the noble consort is in a position of great power, she must die

The favor of the noble consort has reached its peak, not as the empress, but esteemed like the empress, with words that command obedience and the support of the masses

"Lu Daizi's little sister." A certain individual patrolled while wearing a smile that did not reach his eyes.

The court lady said, "There is one less ruby on the dance costume."

The palace garden is deep, with a silent greeting

From now on, whenever we meet, our gazes will intertwine, and our fingers will form the same shape

Lu Silang asked again: "Your Highness, do you think the young lady has ever liked me?"

The palace maids serving the noble consort rushed over, pulling her into the room to change her clothes, and urged with laughter: "Your Highness merely wishes to see some excitement, why not give it a try"

It is said that the Saint and General Chen were in a heated dispute, nearly coming to blows. It is also reported that General Chen and his soldiers killed Yang Guojiao, and they were clamoring for an explanation from the noble consort, insisting that the disaster originated from her.

The beauty of a girl is merely intended for the one who matters most to her

Hmm. Lu Liu'er always echoed her friend's words, then crawled back into bed. She closed her eyes but could not fall asleep no matter what, as the image of Lu Silang's monkey face and the appearance of Guanyin Niangniang swirled in her mind. She did not dare to wish to be as beautiful as the noble consort, but could she at least be beautiful enough to capture a man's heart? She did not dare to hope for the chance to be together, but could he at least like her a little in his heart? Would that be too greedy? She did not dare to hope for the chance to be together, but could he at least like her a little in his heart? Would that be too greedy?

Occasionally, she still has the opportunity to exchange a few words with Lu Silang and inquire about matters at home

She walked down the stage with the steps of a dream, heading to the room to change her clothes

The way of heaven is unjust

The words and actions of the noble consort are worthy of praise by all, the demeanor of the noble consort is to be emulated by everyone, and the hairstyles, clothing, and skincare methods invented by the noble consort are particularly what everyone should strive to learn first.

The noble consort turned and left: "Let her reflect on her mistakes here."

The palace maids often say that there are advantages to being in the cold palace. Although one may not gain any benefits, as long as one works diligently, one can avoid trouble and live a peaceful life until old age, and thus, a lifetime can pass in this manner

"Liu Niang, what kind of happiness do you desire?"

Ah, speak a little softer, let me take a closer look.

I am a shameless thief

The sage hurriedly reassured, "Do not worry, do not worry, my lady, please do not stir the vinegar jar."

The monkey lantern is quite similar to you

In the countryside, the Buddhist hall is not far from where the palace maidens reside. Lu Liu'er inadvertently raised her eyes and saw General Chen surrounded by soldiers with faces full of resentment outside. A young eunuch was hurrying towards the Buddhist hall, holding a tray that seemed to contain a white cloth strip.

Before he left, Lu Liu'er hurriedly asked: "Is it... is it you who has been helping me all along?"

Lu Liu'er became more cautious in her actions. Although she did not wish to harbor resentment towards anyone or speak ill of others, she felt that her heart had changed somewhat. She did not like this change and tried her best to suppress it, remaining gentle and diligent in completing all her tasks. This honesty and integrity gradually led others to accept her and to believe that she had been wrongfully accused rather than being a true thief, and they began to engage in conversation and laughter.

Lu Liu'er's nails dug into the flesh, desperately enduring the pain and holding back any sound.

Truly shameless

Lu Liu'er almost choked her to death

Hello, Sir Si.

Lu Silang hurriedly left

Lu Liu Er really wants to go home

After Lu Liu'er returned to the Yeting, she took out a bronze mirror and examined her reflection from various angles. In the mirror was a very delicate young girl's face. Although simply dressed, she was not unattractive. During these days, her stepmother had treated her well, and she had grown accustomed to life in the palace. It had been a long time since she had shed any tears; how could she be seen as a victim?

Lu Liu'er hesitated for a moment, her face revealing an expression of anticipation, and she nervously asked: "I have believed in Buddhism since childhood and have heard that the noble consort possesses a golden and jade Bodhisattva. It is said that touching it can fulfill one's wishes, and it is the most esteemed and unparalleled. Liu'er comes from a humble background and knows she is unworthy to see the Bodhisattva's countenance. Now, as I embark on this journey on behalf of the noble consort, I can be considered to have gained a bit of nobility... May I, before I depart, pay my respects to the Bodhisattva and ask for their blessings, so that I may be reborn into a good fate due to my merits."

Now she wonders how it is better to be in the palace than to be outside the palace? Moreover, serving by the side of the noble consort is a blessing that all the palace maids desire. How could such a good fortune fall upon her? Receiving unearned rewards, Lu Liu'er is almost dazed by the unexpected windfall. Even someone as slow-witted as she feels that something is amiss, filled with unease and speculation.

What does a fairy look like

Mistakes were made, and when childhood sweethearts met, they were both taken aback

Recalling the neon feather dance performed by the noble consort in the pear garden yesterday, she was truly a celestial being. How could there be such a beautiful woman in the world? The sage tells us that only a woman of such grace and nobility deserves the title of noble consort of the Tang dynasty, and the sage speaks with great reason! Looking at you again, at first glance, there is a slight resemblance, but in essence... sigh, how can there be such a vast difference between people? It is a pity that the noble consort is a revered celestial being who cannot be disrespected, someone of my status cannot gaze upon her freely. Well then, I shall settle for a glance at you, this village woman.

You are talking nonsense

The last silent greeting separates the farthest distance

With a slight sense of disappointment amidst her joy, Lu Liu'er quickly halted her pursuit and bowed deeply, saying: "Thank you, Fourth Master, for your great kindness, Sixth Lady."

The heavy workload had greatly increased her strength, and the desire to survive made her swift. Years of resentment had sharpened her aim. Without hesitation, without doubt, without pause, she moved so quickly that others could not react in time. In an instant, the situation changed dramatically; the favored consort fell to the ground without uttering a sound, her hairpin scattered across the floor like hibiscus flowers. A thin stream of blood slowly flowed from her hair, and her long, pale fingers twitched slightly twice before becoming still.

If it is poisonous, she would drink it without hesitation

Lu Silang was taken aback, as if he had heard some unbelievable joke, and mercilessly mocked: "Hey, are you still dreaming? Do you really think that just because you resemble the noble concubine a little and dress up flamboyantly, the esteemed will take notice of you? Forget it, you are like a kite with a broken string—there's no hope left. Just obediently be your little maid, with that overly white makeup, you look utterly ugly, yet you still dare to dream of climbing the social ladder?"

The peonies are about to be fully planted, and the dancers are reluctant to part.

The sage set down the drum and, during his rest, glanced around. Suddenly, his gaze landed on Lu Liu'er, who was staring blankly at the noble consort, as if he had discovered something novel. He spoke to the consort, saying: "My lady, who does that little palace maid resemble?"

After Lü Silang finished his instructions, he did not linger and turned to leave

"You are talking nonsense, I will not listen." Lu Liu'er dared not continue speaking with her, who was acting wildly and irrationally.

Lu Liu'er prays every day

All men in the world will be fond of the noble consort

The old palace maid patted her shoulder and comforted her, saying: "Accept your fate; the palace is a world where only the wicked can thrive. Conscience? You must cast it all aside. With your looks, and lacking intelligence, your life will not be long."

He should know that the originally kind-hearted young girl has now stained her hands with blood and is no longer a good person

However, just as she was leaving joyfully to express her gratitude, a high-ranking maid suddenly blocked her path with a dark expression on her face

The noble consort is aware that everyone is emulating her, and she does not find it offensive; rather, she finds it quite amusing. She even deliberately seeks new and elaborate styles of dressing as a source of enjoyment

Is there anything more tragic than this in the world

The ruby is not on the stage, inexplicably in her sleeve

"Liu Niang, Liu Niang, you truly are a dim-witted fool who lacks insight"

The eldest son of the family has gotten married, the second son has gone out to learn business, and grandfather's joint pain has worsened in the rainy weather. Mother continues to show favoritism towards the fifth daughter, often giving her private money for support, which has led to some discord with the sister-in-law. The seventh daughter is also engaged, and it is said that her fiancé comes from a good family and is a scholar.

The court lady proposed: "Thieves in the palace should be executed by beating."

General Chen brought people to inspect the corpse, but as he is the leader of the Imperial Guard, he had only seen the noble consort's appearance from a distance and had never approached to examine her closely. Now, seeing the resemblance, it indeed appears to be genuine, leaving little to discuss. The sage, unable to bear the sight, merely glanced from afar and did not approach, instead sending a trusted close attendant to conduct the inspection.

Under the moonlight, his figure is so near, yet so far.

Happiness is like a sparrow that flies past on a road shrouded in thick fog, elusive and invisible.

Lu Liu'er could not speak, she could only nod gently with tears in her eyes

Lu Silang treated her very well. Occasionally, when he would inadvertently glance in her direction, he would quickly turn his head away upon being noticed. This would inevitably create some illusions. On one occasion, she mustered her courage and shyly asked him why he was looking at her

Good men, bad men, all men except for saints have nothing to do with the palace maids

Until that beauty, who bloomed in the peony flowers, smiled gracefully at everyone and walked away leisurely, leaving all in a daze

After several days, the noble consort returned and personally came to inquire about Consort Mei

In the misty rain, Lu Liu'er felt very cold, her bones chilled

On that day, the noble consort wore her hair in a reverse bun, adorned with several small pearl flowers and complemented by long pearl earrings, creating an exceptionally elegant appearance. Coincidentally, Lu Liu'er also styled her hair in a reverse bun, with a few small silver flowers inserted. With the same hairstyle, and given their already somewhat similar appearances, aside from the significantly different clothing and demeanor, they bore a resemblance to twin sisters.

In the stillness of the deep night, with dark clouds obscuring the moon, she would secretly hide under the covers, thinking of her parents, her brothers, the sesame pancakes from Chongrenfang, and the lamb wontons made by her aunt. As she thought of these things, tears would well up in her eyes. Yet, she also felt that the Daming Palace was so sacred, with white flour served at every meal, and she wore fine fabrics that her family would not dare to wear even during the New Year. Inside, there was the emperor, high above, the imperial concubine, and many noble individuals standing even higher than the clouds. Just being with them made her feel a touch of nobility, and perhaps one day she could bring honor to her parents. This small wish helped her encourage herself to sleep amidst the restless nights filled with homesickness.

Lu Liu'er felt a bit unwilling: "Everyone says I resemble her a little, especially when I wear makeup. Last time, Lord He even praised my looks, saying that I might have good fortune in the future..."

According to the records in the New Book of Tang, in the 28th year of the Kaiyuan era, in the month of October, under the pretext of praying for the blessings of Emperor Xuanzong's mother, Empress Dowager Dou, an edict was issued to allow the Yang family to become a female Taoist priest, with the title "Taizhen"

Later on, everyone became familiar with life in the palace and discovered that although there were many palace rules, their enforcement was not as strict as one might imagine. Lü Silang developed a good relationship with his colleagues and mentioned that Lu Liu'er was a fellow townswoman, so it was not a big deal to exchange a few casual words with her in broad daylight. Since the Si Yuan had little to offer, and the areas managed by the Lu palace maid did not attract much attention, the palace maids engaged in less intrigue and were quite united. Moreover, Lu Liu'er was young, had a good temper, and was well-liked, making it difficult for any gossip to arise from her casual conversations with men. Everyone took the opportunity to ask her to help inquire about their families and the latest happenings outside, alleviating their loneliness.

Seeing her being so sensible and understanding, it would not be appropriate to act hastily

The noble consort held the ruby in her palm, looking at her with a sense of disappointment as if lamenting that iron could not be forged into steel

Until I met him

The numerous palace maids were on the verge of tears, and even Master Gao's expression was grim, as he sat restlessly.

Not long after, it was reported that the old palace maid had suddenly died.

They are destined to be without men, which is why they enjoy talking about men the most

Lu Liu'er thought for a moment and insisted: "My father said that one should be honest and trustworthy as a fundamental principle. Heaven is watching, and the misdeeds of others are their own business; one must still strive to be a good person oneself"

Lu Liu'er no longer cared about the palace rules, looking at him with eyes akin to those of a savior

Lv Silang gently raised his head, his eyes slightly red: "I once had a childhood sweetheart, a little sister. She was kind and gentle, the most adorable. No matter how she dressed or how much she resembled others, I could always recognize her at a glance in a crowd. She had the best temper; every time I made a mistake, she would always help me cover it up. My little sister was truly beautiful, and she treated me so well. I cherished her deeply in my heart, yet I had a foul mouth and a bad temper. Although I genuinely wanted to say a few kind words to her, what came out was nonsense, which only made her angry and caused her distress. Your Highness, do you think I am a fool, an idiot?" Yang Guifei, commonly referred to as Yang Yuhuan by the world and often called Yang Taizhen by poets, was the beloved consort of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. She is one of the four great beauties of ancient China, known as the "Shame of Flowers"

"They must ensure their lifelong prosperity." The noble consort nodded repeatedly, instructed the palace attendants to take note, and present it to the sage, then asked, "Is there anything else?"

Lu Silang paid no attention to them and continued to speak to himself: "The little girl was sent to serve as a maid in a prestigious household. She grew more and more beautiful, increasingly charming, yet I always call her an ugly monster. She has suffered many unjust grievances and endured countless inexplicable hardships in that high-status family. I deeply regret my clumsiness in speech, my inability to comfort her, and how I have made her angry. I always think that if she could just endure a little longer, I would surely find a way to get her out. At that time, the sky would be vast and the sea wide, and I would go to propose to her, bringing a grand bridal sedan chair to marry her, treating her well for a lifetime, ensuring she would never suffer again. She would wear gold hairpins and fine silk, and we would have two lovely children. When we grow old, with white hair, we would take our children and grandchildren to see the peach blossoms in spring, the boats in summer, the lanterns in autumn, and the ice sculptures in winter. How joyful that would be?"

Lu Liu'er trembled with fear

Mocking, sympathetic, disdainful, indifferent, all gazes focused on the stage, she knelt in the center

Boldly! In an instant, the noble consort met her demise. The palace maids were so frightened that some sat down on the ground, while others were left in shock. Those who regained their senses hurried forward to apprehend her, questioning, "Are you not afraid of the punishment of exterminating your entire clan?"

She is the most revered figure among all the women in Chang'an

She has only one road that can be seen at a glance, and like most palace maids, she is now sixty, having once been sixteen. The beauty of her youth has faded, flowing away like water, and she is now buried in the wild fox's fall. However, before the flowers wither, she still harbors a small dream; she hopes that someone will compliment her on her beauty, for at least having been liked by someone she admires is a form of happiness.

Two

This scene resembled the behavior of a folk couple, which left the onlookers in the imperial court somewhat astonished, while the palace maids who had long served in the pear garden were not surprised at all. The noble consort seemed to be struck by a whim; she set aside her thoughts of the sage and, after observing Lu Liu'er with great interest for a while, quietly instructed a few words to the palace maids. Then, raising her hand, she summoned her and said, half-jokingly and half-seriously: "It is rare that you and I have a connection; why not try performing the Rainbow Feather Dance on stage?"

In the past, this would have been a tremendous opportunity.

Who cares if you looked? Fool! Go outside the palace and see your beauty.

She stood at the bow of the ship, gently raised her hand, extended four fingers, and waved, forming the character "4".

"Unfortunately, it is too late, everything is too late, forever too late," Lu Silang said with great difficulty. "I am so incompetent; despite my efforts, I still cannot save her. My dearest little sister is leaving, and she will never return." He turned around and gazed directly at the curtain in the cabin, softly saying, "Your Highness, I am sorry for my little sister. Do you think she will forgive me?"

Lu Liu'er mustered her courage and secretly glanced up at the noble consort.

The so-called reflection is the acknowledgment that one is a thief

At this point, everyone has come to their senses

Lu Silang retorted, "Who cares to look at you? I just think you do resemble that person a bit."

His name is Lü Silang, originally the son of a neighbor's tavern, and he was well-matched with the Lu family, maintaining a close relationship. Lü's mother even jokingly suggested that the Lu family's daughter should marry her son. Lü Silang was the king of the children in the entire village since childhood, relying on his height and strength, he was the best at fighting and loved to bully girls, especially Lu Liu'er. He would either snatch her hairpin or scare her with grasshoppers and mice. Liu'er was naturally timid, and no matter how kind-hearted she was, she could not withstand his antics. Unable to endure any longer, she reported him several times, and he was brought by his mother to apologize. Liu'er always hid behind her elder brother, sulking and refusing to see him, which only provoked his mockery and teasing. Their parents only laughed, considering them natural enemies, the fated childhood companions.

This is a tacit understanding without words

Fate, this life has come to an end, the next life remains uncertain

Lu Liu'er felt a sense of fear, with goosebumps covering her entire body

Even if it means being cut into a thousand pieces, even if it means being torn apart by five horses, she does not want him to see her in such a disgraceful state

Hello, Liu Niang

She wanted to ask him directly whether her guess was correct, but despite being separated by mere inches within the deep palace walls, they would never see each other again

The treasure ship sets sail on the sea, the sea breeze lifts her veil, drying her tears. She gazes at the man on the dock who is seeing her off, unable to take her eyes off him, as if she wants to forever engrave him in her sight and etch him into her heart for a lifetime.

Lu Liu'er hesitated for a long time, disregarding the objections, and nodded once again

Regardless of which answer it is, Lu Liu'er cannot find peace in her heart

The sage stroked his beard and nodded with a smile: "Indeed, it resembles the appearance of my wife in her youth"

With the filling white rice, Lu Liu'er’s body resembled spring bamboo shoots, having suddenly sprouted after a winter's dormancy. She was no longer the thin, small yellow-haired girl; she began to exhibit the fullness and charm of a woman. Her dark, dull yellow hair, under careful maintenance, radiated a glossy and vibrant color. The youthful innocence in her brows and eyes had matured, now carrying a touch of captivating allure. The poise she had deliberately practiced had also seen significant improvement. She was no longer the thin, small yellow-haired girl; she began to exhibit the fullness and charm of a woman. The poise she had deliberately practiced had also seen significant improvement

The old palace maid said: "If Your Highness feels that there is, then there is."

It was merely that the noble consort was displeased to see the sage praise her as being younger than herself, thus overturning the vinegar jar of jealousy. She also found it inauspicious that the maid, who resembled her, was to be beaten to death, and she was unwilling for others to say that she was unkind. Consequently, she devised a little trap to cast her into the laundry bureau, using arduous work to wear away her appearance. The noble consort's prediction was quite accurate; after a year in this place, her beauty had aged a full ten years.

At the age of sixteen, Yang married Li Mao, the son of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang. Li Mao's mother, Consort Wu Hui, was the most favored concubine of Emperor Xuanzong, enjoying a status in the palace equivalent to that of the empress. In the twenty-fifth year of the Kaiyuan era, Consort Wu Hui passed away, and Emperor Xuanzong mourned her for a long time. Someone suggested to him that Yang, "possessing exceptional beauty and grace, should be appointed to the inner court." Thus, Emperor Xuanzong summoned Yang into the imperial harem.

His loyalty to the sage is so profound that he must know that the order for execution was directed at him and not the noble consort. He is accustomed to the noble consort and is so familiar with himself that upon closer inspection, he can always uncover flaws. Yet now, is it that he has been too careless in his examination to see the truth, or has he sensed that the truth is protecting him

The plain-colored roses have been uprooted, and vibrant peonies have been planted. On the stage, the noble consort is practicing the neon feather dance, her costume embroidered with the feathers of a hundred birds, adorned with twelve exquisite rubies that sparkle brilliantly in the sunlight. Accompanied by her graceful dance steps, she exudes elegance and charm. The palace attendants play musical instruments, while the sovereign keeps time with a hand drum, creating a harmonious blend of strings and percussion. The two exchange glances, occasionally discussing the interludes of the dance, their conversation filled with laughter and deep affection. How to describe the beauty of the noble consort? In the imperial harem of three thousand, beauties abound, each with their own preferences, and no one can claim to be the most beautiful. If it is said that the Mei Consort is a celestial being descended from the heavens, ethereal and untouched by the mortal world, then the noble consort is akin to a Bodhisattva of the earthly realm, beautiful in a way that is both admirable and approachable. She possesses a natural, languid charm, exuding a fiery passion that is non-intrusive, much like a warm hearth, inviting everyone to linger by her side. And those eyes, glancing with life, shimmer with gentleness, as if they could speak; with just a single glance, they can capture your very soul. And those eyes, glancing with life, shimmer with gentleness, as if they could speak; with just a single glance, they can capture your very soul.

This is her chance of survival against all odds

The wood has already become a boat, a great disaster is imminent. On one side is the possibility of remaining safe and sound, while on the other is certain punishment. Almost everyone makes the same choice, including the loyal Grand Eunuch Gao, who is no exception. Wiping his tears, he said, "If the sage knows that the noble consort has left, it will surely break his heart, and it would also be detrimental to the dragon's body." Such righteous words immediately turned the remaining palace servants, who still had a shred of conscience and were somewhat hesitant, against each other.

Happiness was once within reach, yet it was forcefully torn apart

"Once the work is done, you can leave, right?" Lu Liu'er was about to respond when she heard Lu Silang's colleague speaking in a low voice, "Silang, your neighbor's little sister is still growing, but her small face is quite pretty, and her brows and eyes have a hint of the grace of a noble concubine. Trust me, I have seen many beauties. Once this little one matures, she will surely be a stunning beauty! If you treat her well now, who knows, one day she might catch the eye of some noble, and her future will be..."

The palace maid smiled and said, "Sister, let's search for it."

Fortunately, the noble consort is in a very bad mood, crying with the sage every day. Aside from occasionally scolding her, he hardly pays her any attention, treating her as an invisible person who is dispensable, left aside to silently follow the procession. However, Lu Silang has noticed her; although he feels somewhat depressed, he has no choice but to set it aside for the time being.

Lu Liu'er was taken aback, feeling a twinge of bitterness in her heart

The suppressed fear and resentment erupted violently, and after the extreme panic came an unprecedented clarity of mind, akin to a trapped beast struggling for survival. By some twist of fate, a bold idea emerged in her mind; she seemed possessed by a malevolent spirit, so calm that it terrified even herself. With a facade of unprecedented hypocrisy layered over her previously honest demeanor, she walked slowly into the Buddhist hall, surveying her surroundings. The sage required consideration for face, and only a few personal attendants were present to see the imperial concubine off.

The atmosphere is becoming increasingly cold

The desperate cries of the young girl echoed repeatedly above the pear orchard

Lu Liu'er is somewhat slow-witted, learns very slowly, is short in stature, and does not particularly please those in authority

Everyone appeared to be as usual, as if such a person had never existed

Lu Liu'er knew that the person referred to was the noble consort.

Lu Liu'er nodded repeatedly until the palace maids around her tightly grasped her waist, using vigilant glances to prevent her from losing her composure

Until her cheeks were beaten red and swollen, her lips cracked and a few drops of bright red blood flowed out, she, though dull-witted, did not quite understand why she had offended the noble consort. However, as long as the noble consort said she had stolen, then she had stolen; even if she had not stolen, it was still considered theft. The chief palace maid was annoyed by her defense and intentionally humiliated her, forcing her to announce her crime to everyone in the center of the stage at the loudest volume.

Lu Liu'er felt even more wronged: "Are the people in the palace unreasonable?"

If heaven has eyes, if good and evil are rewarded, she should not have died

In the fourth year of the Tianbao era, a woman from the Yang family entered the palace, known for her unparalleled beauty and exceptional singing and dancing skills. She gained the emperor's favor and was granted the title of Noble Consort. The Noble Consort, fond of luxury, prompted the emperor to engage in extensive construction, building palaces and widely recruiting palace maids

Lu Liu'er has gained experience and can be considered a senior palace maid

... ...

Those days were so happy

The old palace maid who shared a room with her was only thirty-eight years old, yet her hair was completely white, her body was emaciated, and her teeth were nearly all gone. She seemed indifferent to everything, fanning herself with a palm leaf and mumbling to her: "You are quite fortunate, you know. The noble consort has shown mercy. With a face like yours, to still be seen by the sage, you are nothing but a seductress. A thousand deaths would be too lenient; what does a little grievance matter? Your life is still intact, after all"

In the fifteenth year of the Tianbao era, An Lushan raised an army and rebelled

Lu Silang said again: "Your Highness, if there is even a glimmer of hope, I only wish for my younger sister to live well. Do you think she can achieve that?"

After a while, someone returned and whispered, "Hey, your fifth sister has gotten married, ha ha—" He said with glee, "That year, she caused quite a stir to have you replace her in the palace, and her scandalous reputation spread far and wide. Families with even a bit of respectability were unwilling to marry her. Now she has married a butcher as a secondary wife, and I hear she is scolded from morning till night, living a very difficult life. Are you feeling pleased about this?"

After the noble consort was demoted to the laundry bureau, she inquired slightly about her words and actions. Even upon learning the truth of the theft, she never uttered a word of complaint, diligently performing her duties without harboring any other thoughts, being the most honest and kind-hearted child. Now, seeing her willing to die for herself, one cannot help but feel a sense of emotion, holding her hand and shedding a few tears: "Good child, is there anything you need me to do for you?"

The palace regulations are virtually non-existent, and even the slightest capable court officials are striving to make plans for themselves

I cannot hear clearly

I am a shameless thief

The noble consort is the best person in the world, and Lu Liu'er dared not defy the imperial decree, so she had no choice but to let the palace maids dress her in that splendid dance attire. After changing her hairstyle and adorning herself with golden hairpins and jingling ornaments, she stood in the center of the stage, adorned with colorful feathers, pearls, and gemstones, her body shimmering and moving. She had never worn such beautiful clothes in her life, feeling as if her feet were light and floating, as if she were dreaming of being a celestial consort. She forgot everything that happened afterward; perhaps, in time with the music, the child who could not dance was at a loss, awkwardly twisting her body like a mother duck, provoking bursts of laughter.

She has never committed any wrongdoing in her life, yet she must repeatedly proclaim her unfounded accusations aloud

Well, after careful observation, it is still ugly

Hello, Sir Si.

She dances well, plays the music beautifully, excels at polo, and often brings innovation to her clothing and accessories

Lu Liu'er thought for a moment: "If the Empress overcomes great difficulties, I ask the Empress to take care of my family for Liu'er."

Lu Liu'er smiled and asked again: "The noble consort is the one who holds the heart of the sage. Even if she is tormented in a pot of oil, we cannot bear to let her suffer any grievances. We will do everything possible to ensure her survival. If the noble consort cannot survive, do you think that in his great anger, the sage would send all of you useless and ineffective ones to accompany her in death? At that time, everyone would go to the underworld together to apologize to the noble consort, how delightful that would be"

She could never have imagined until her death that this seemingly most honest palace maid possessed the wildest courage

In their leisure time, everyone no longer engages in flower duels or discusses military plays, but instead, they all learn the walking posture and tea-drinking mannerisms of the noble concubine, striving to emulate her elegance and beauty. Often, there are small groups of three or four, or even five, practicing together, waving their handkerchiefs, holding tea cups with their pinkies raised, practicing smiles in front of mirrors, or learning to groom themselves. Unfortunately, most of them resemble the foolish imitation of Dongshi, which is quite laughable.

However, the noble consort gently had someone assist her to rise, scrutinized her carefully, and smiled to comfort her, saying: "Poor child, it is nothing serious, do not cry." She even bestowed her handkerchief to wipe away the tears, while the palace attendants also smiled, saying, "The noble consort is the most compassionate and will not blame you for such a trivial matter, go on and take your leave."

Outside the courtyard, the lights of the pear garden shine throughout the night, almost illuminating the horizon in red. Laughter, music, and dance continue without end, as if one were in a realm between heaven and earth

Hello, Liu Niang

He stood at the dock, gently raised his hand, extended his thumb and little finger, and waved, forming the character "6".

A thunderclap struck, and the truth was revealed

Lu Liu'er did not dare to speak, fearing that the truth would be discovered

Lu Liu'er was in tears, her honest nature and amiable disposition meant she always yielded to others, preferring to suffer losses rather than offend anyone. She had never even had a quarrel in her life, and she truly could not understand why someone would frame her, a mere palace maid. Perhaps the thread on the gemstone had come loose and accidentally fallen into her sleeve? An unprecedented fear enveloped her, bringing with it a life-threatening crisis. She was at a loss and could only keep bowing her head in supplication, declaring that she had not stolen anything, pleading for the compassion of the noble consort, until her scalp was bruised from the repeated prostrations.

I am a shameless thief

The noble consort, contemplating the impending separation from the sage, perhaps forever, is overwhelmed with emotion, weeping to the point of heartache.

Lu Liu'er released her left hand holding the broom, brought her thumb together, extended four fingers, and quietly waved at him.

You are loyal and devoted, and in the next life, you will surely be born into a wealthy family. The noble consort ordered someone to bring the golden and jade Bodhisattva, placed it on the table, lit incense, and signaled for her to pay her respects.

Later, the Lü family prospered and moved away, while the Lu family, left behind, gradually fell into decline. The two families, which were once quite similar, became worlds apart, and it had been many years since they had any proper interactions. Little did anyone know that Lü Silang, with exceptional martial skills, had passed the martial examination at a young age and gained the favor of a noble, eventually entering the Imperial Guards. However, due to the new recruits taking office and lacking strong connections, he had no opportunity to present himself before the sage and was relegated to a cold palace nearby to oversee the guard duties.

Liu Liu'er comforted: "My sister was pampered at home, but after getting married, she is beaten and scolded by her husband every day. This shows that marriage is not entirely a good thing..."

She is pacing in place

It is said that the imperial concubine is the most beautiful woman in the world. Whenever girls hear someone praise their beauty, especially in front of men they care about, even though they know such words may be somewhat reckless and against propriety, they still feel delighted in their hearts

However, the noble consort did not allow her to die; even if she wished to die, she could not.

Lu Liu'er rolled her eyes and probed, "For instance, being favored by a noble or something like that"

However, things did not proceed as he had arranged. The chief steward arrived at the small laundry bureau, as the sage suddenly issued an edict, granting clemency and pardoning Lu Liu'er of her crimes, and promoting her to the position of a female official beside the noble consort, accompanying her on outings.

Throughout her life, many events flashed through her mind. Her father held her on his lap when she was young and told her that she should be a good person in this life, and that a girl should be kind and gentle as a virtue. She believed her father's words, was obedient and sensible. She took the place of Fifth Lady in the palace, worked diligently, never harmed anyone, and treated everyone around her with honesty and kindness. She endured all injustices and humiliations.

Lu Liu'er was naturally unwilling, yet she could not emulate her sister's audacity, secretly shedding many tears, and still obediently entered the palace out of filial piety. Her father, feeling sorry for this sensible and kind-hearted daughter, also used connections and offered tea and wine, ultimately ensuring that she was not assigned to the most arduous and exhausting tasks, but instead went to the Imperial Garden, where she was responsible for the flowers, plants, and trees outside the Eastern Palace of Shangyang. The Eastern Palace of Shangyang had always been a cold palace, where the Consort Mei resided. The Eastern Palace of Shangyang had always been a cold palace, where the Consort Mei resided

Whenever she thinks of this, Lu Liu'er feels a sense of joy in her heart, and her strength for work increases by a third.

"Sigh, when will there be a general amnesty?" Qing'er, fanning herself, sat on the steps in front of the door, letting out her one thousand and first sigh. She was closest to Lu Liu'er and did not care about appearances. The two exchanged heartfelt words, "I am already twenty-four this year. My mother had already become a mother of three by the age of twenty-four. When I was young, she often said she would prepare a substantial dowry for my marriage. Unfortunately, fate does not align with human wishes, and I am destined to disappoint my mother’s heartfelt intentions in this lifetime." In the Daming Palace, many women have endured from their youthful years into old age, living and dying quietly. The only thing they can hope for is that the sage will show mercy and grant amnesty to the palace maids. Although being released would mean becoming an old maid, and finding a suitable partner would be difficult, it is still better than living as a widow. Unfortunately, the current emperor prefers to select palace maids to bring in rather than release them. Currently, the number of palace maids in the Yeting has reached tens of thousands, and everyone says there should be an opportunity soon.

Lu Liu'er was so furious that smoke seemed to emanate from her seven orifices, only lamenting that this was the palace and she could not use a broom to strike his filthy mouth

The leading attendant was Lü Silang, who casually flipped through the corpses without paying much attention before leaving, reporting that there were no errors

Most of them are palace servants specifically chosen by the sage to accompany the imperial concubine in her escape overseas. If the sage were to learn of the concubine's death, not only would they be unable to escape this perilous place, but they would also have to endure the sage's wrath. Given the sage's deep affection for the concubine, they would undoubtedly be burned to ashes, and their families might also suffer repercussions. After death, a person's appearance will inevitably change. Lu Liu'er bears a striking resemblance to the concubine and has also learned to mimic her mannerisms. It would be better to take the risk of claiming her as the concubine and make a bold attempt. If successful, whether the servants remain here or escape with the concubine, the truth will not be discovered. In the future, they can find excuses to ensure that the concubine never returns to the Tang Dynasty, allowing the sage to believe that his beloved consort is still alive, which would bring him joy.

Each word is like a needle, piercing fiercely, penetrating deeply, leaving the heart riddled with countless wounds

Such a gentle voice, such a kind demeanor

He and she, from then on, are worlds apart, at the ends of the earth.

One

Ha, there is actually a thief in the palace, which maid is it? Such audacity

That night, she had a dream in which she returned to her childhood, to the carefree times outside the palace, where the young Si Lang held her hand as they went to see the lanterns together

"Brother Lu the Monkey." A certain individual was raking fallen leaves while maintaining a blank expression.

The convoy arrived at Mawu Slope, stopped, and remained stationary for two to three days.

Lü Silang's footsteps paused slightly; he did not turn back. After a moment of hesitation, his tone became impatient: "It is only because we were once neighbors and your father took care of me that I am even considering this..."

"What good fortune?" Lu Silang scoffed, "Do you believe everything others say? You are so coarse and unrefined, dull and clumsy, that even good fortune would be lost on you"

She is the one who makes a fuss over trivial matters

You are talking nonsense

Perhaps it is the instinct of small animals

Three

A short and shallow-eyed scoundrel

So this is the Daming Palace; the death of a couple of people is not a big deal.

Lu Liu'er performed three bows, slowly stood up, reached out to touch the heavy golden and jade Bodhisattva, and smiled as she looked towards the noble consort

Perhaps one of these voices is his

Everyone is envious and resentful of her transformation, secretly saying that she resembles the noble consort.

Later on, the sage departed

The body of the noble consort was dragged out

The person who came to bid farewell to the saint was Lü Silang

Lu Silang merely smiled, a smile filled with pride

The noble Consort Mei deserves to fall out of favor

I am a shameless thief

You ... ...

The palace maid serving the noble consort stepped forward to redo the makeup of the deceased consort. They used large floral hairpins to cover the wounds at her temples, and the palace attendants changed her into a new outfit free of bloodstains, desperately scrubbing the blood from the floor. Then, they tightly bound her neck with white silk. Afterward, they dressed Lu Liu'er in another set of clothing, applying eyebrow makeup and eye shadow, and painting her lips with rouge. From a distance, unless one was extremely familiar with her, it would be nearly impossible to distinguish her.

The palace maids all praised, "Your Highness is compassionate"

Lu Liu'er looked at her aged and wrinkled face, shaking her head honestly

Uh, this, Liu Er hasn't thought it through...

Lu Silang extended his right thumb and little finger, gently forming the character "6" and subtly shook it.

The laundry bureau was isolated from the outside world, and she had not received any news from Lu Silang. The head palace maid in charge of the laundry was extremely strict with her, often resorting to beatings or scoldings. Her workload was the heaviest, while her time for sleep and meals was the least. In the summer, she washed clothes under the scorching sun, nearly fainting from the heat, and in the winter, she soaked her ten fingers in icy water, causing cracks to form, leaving them red and swollen. After enduring this for about half a year, her workload finally decreased somewhat, and her meals improved as well. It was said that a kind-hearted person had sent a large sum of silver to the head palace maid to seek her favor, and since the higher-ups no longer paid attention to her, the head maid relaxed her demands.

Knowing one's mistakes yet failing to correct them, truly... the noble consort sighs

Lu Liu'er tried hard to recall the Guanyin Niangniang she had seen in her childhood, and then imagined the feeling of tender bones, but could not come up with it no matter how hard she tried

At times, she would lean against the palace wall, listening to the sound of boots outside, lost in a daze.

Within the courtyard, there is an oppressive atmosphere of cold darkness everywhere. After nightfall, a deathly silence prevails, broken only by the occasional chirping of crickets, echoing in the desolation

The palace maid named Zhang Hua'er was the most timid and weak. Upon discovering the trouble she had caused, she was so frightened that tears streamed down her face, and she kept bowing her head in apology

All dignity, all innocence, and that small affection were shattered and extinguished in this moment

I am a shameless thief

The small boat gently floated by the riverbank, as the attendant sent by the sage quietly assisted the noble consort onto the boat to leave, heading out to sea to transfer to a larger vessel. They were only one step away from freedom, and all the palace servants were terrified that the truth would be revealed. They surrounded Lu Liu'er in a tight circle, carrying a curtain, forbidding anyone from seeing her true appearance, and not allowing her to say another word.

However, the sage has issued a decree, and even if she has to force herself, she cannot avoid going

The noble consort pondered for a while and shook her head: "Tomorrow is everyone's birthday, and I do not wish to let blood be shed in the palace over such a trivial matter"

Lu Liu'er hurriedly knelt down to explain: "It wasn't me who stole it."

"It is just a joke," Lu Liu'er said seriously, "The one who died on the ground is merely a lowly palace maid. The noble consort is certainly alive and well. Although the sage is not by her side and they may never meet again in this lifetime, she still intends to leave Mawei Slope with you all and live well. Don't you agree?"

The sage wished to flee in haste, and throughout the Daming Palace, there was a palpable fear of the rebel forces entering the palace, causing widespread anxiety among the people

The palace maid admonished sharply: "Guard Lu, what nonsense are you talking about?"

The Pear Garden sent an official to convey a message, stating that the Imperial Concubine does not favor the clusters of roses by the stage and wishes to replace them with peonies. She ordered the Garden Supervisor to immediately select suitable flowers for the change. This was a rare opportunity for the courtiers to present themselves before the noble ones, leading the palace maids of the Garden to compete fiercely, causing the female historian to be in a difficult position. In order to avoid offending anyone, the opportunity ultimately fell to the unambitious Lady Lu. At this moment, it was just evening, and the sunset had not yet descended. Hearing that the Imperial Concubine and the Sovereign were still in the Pear Garden, everyone was very excited at the prospect of witnessing the Imperial Concubine's singing and dancing in person.

The journey arranged by the saint, her resemblance to the noble consort, and the white silk sent to the Buddhist hall by the eunuchs were enough to make even the most foolish woman realize what was about to happen

In the continuous rain, the vermilion walls of the Daming Palace seemed to be shrouded in mist, while the azure glazed tiles glistened after being washed by the rain. Everywhere there were exotic flowers and plants, and celestial beauties, captivating the eyes of the newly arrived palace maids, who felt as if they had entered the fairyland of Penglai, slightly brightening the gloomy mood of Lu Liu'er.

Lu Liu'er is the most meticulous and conscientious in her work, never making mistakes, and has been selected by Lady Lu to be sent over

"Godmother, please do not be angry. Wait for my daughter to return and think it over carefully..."

"Your Highness, this is stolen property." The chief palace maid returned the jewels to the noble consort, who was furious and scolded, "Shameless thief!" Several strong palace maids held Lu Liu'er down and, without further ado, slapped her several times.

At that time, the palace maids near the Upper Yang Eastern Palace were quite nervous about the sudden visit of this favored noblewoman who held sway over the harem. As a result, one of the maids, overwhelmed by anxiety, lost her balance while performing her bow and fell headlong, landing right at the feet of the noble consort, nearly knocking over the senior maid accompanying her

It is said that Consort Mei was once the most favored concubine of the Sage, but now the Noble Consort has gained favor, along with the Korean Lady, Lady Guo of the State of Guo, and Lady Qin of the State of Qin, who frequently visit, leading to endless topics of conversation in the palace, lively and fresh, causing everyone to forget her. People are more curious about the appearances of the Sage and the Noble Consort, but unfortunately, many of the palace maids serving here have never seen the faces of the nobility throughout their lives. Lu Liu'er’s superior is an old palace maid with the surname Lu, who has gray hair at her temples, possesses a kind heart, and due to her gentle nature, only managed to attain a lowly position of the ninth rank after many years of service. She has practiced Buddhism and vegetarianism for many years, having diminished her desire for fame and profit. Seeing that Liu'er is of the same clan and feeling pity for her youth, diligence, and honest character, she took her in as a goddaughter and often provided her with extra care.

Lü Silang gazed at her, whom he had not seen for a long time, for a quarter of an hour, and then spoke: "I am now a personal attendant to the sage." He did not know what he was explaining.

They are in the prime of their youth, with many years ahead until old age. How can they resign themselves to becoming like the old women of the past, who only reminisce about their younger days, year after year, day after day? Even if they cannot become concubines, being a lady-in-waiting is still a commendable achievement that brings honor to their families. Therefore, everyone is very dedicated to their studies in the inner teaching hall, hoping that one day they can stand out and make a name for themselves

Gradually, she also understood the reason for her conviction

In the fourth year of the Tianbao era, in July, Li Mao newly married Wei. One month later, Yang Taizhen was conferred the title of Guifei (noble consort). At this time, Yang was twenty-one years old, while Emperor Xuanzong of Tang was fifty-five years old. Thus, Yang became the stepmother of Li Mao. The honors bestowed upon Yang Guifei were, in fact, equivalent to those of the Empress.

The noble consort also sent someone to reward her with several exquisite palace flowers and a pair of valuable jade bracelets

Some palace maids have left the Si Yuan, while others have arrived; amidst the comings and goings, she is not present

Lu Liu'er was so frightened that her face turned red, and she hurriedly knelt down and bowed her head, saying: "This servant cannot dance"

But she is very unwilling; she is only seventeen years old and does not want to die

Lu Liu'er was well aware that since the sage ascended to the throne, he had been remarkably wise in reforming the governance. Even though he was old and favored the imperial concubine, displaying a somewhat unruly demeanor, he was not a foolish person. On the day of leaving the palace, he had already made the worst plans for his beloved concubine and paved the way for her retreat. Unfortunately, even if she were to die for the imperial concubine, the latter could no longer remain with the sage; otherwise, the soldiers would not forgive her. The sage's words were golden, and he would not easily go back on them. If the imperial concubine survived, she would most likely be sent far away, making it difficult for her to meet the emperor openly and honorably. The imperial concubine could no longer remain with the sage; otherwise, the soldiers would not forgive her. The sage's words were golden, and he would not easily go back on them. If the imperial concubine survived, she would most likely be sent far away, making it difficult for her to meet the emperor openly and honorably.

What was once thought to be a dull and flavorless court life has thus gained color. In the midst of busyness, time has swiftly passed, and looking back, it has already been three years

After entering the Buddhist hall, Lu Liu'er glanced at the white silk and, unable to bear the palace maids' distress, hurriedly knelt before the noble concubine. With tears streaming down her face and an overwhelming sense of sorrow, she rushed to express her loyalty, softly calling out: "Your Highness! General Chen is plotting treason and even intends to poison you. Your compassionate heart, like that of a Bodhisattva, shows such kindness to the palace maids; how could they bear to harm you? I implore you to let Liu'er die in your stead. Liu'er is of lowly status, and my death is of no consequence. Your Highness, with your precious life, should take good care of yourself, for one day you will be reunited with the sage."

"Fool," said Lü Silang, his eyes crinkling with laughter, "being sold off and still counting silver."

The wound on her face burned like a fever, yet her heart was as cold as that of a corpse. Tears blurred her vision, and the world before her was a hazy, indistinct expanse. The curtain of tears separated her from his figure; she could not discern his expression, nor could she see his face, until he slowly turned away and vanished from sight

If there were a well, she would jump down without hesitation

I see

The young palace maids scoffed at it

Lu Liu'er’s lonely life has finally gained a touch of vibrant color, as she looks forward to seeing him every day

Moreover, is the noble consort truly as beautiful as a fairy

Lu Liu'er nodded repeatedly

Heaven bless, the palace is treacherous, I hope she does not inexplicably disappear, and I also hope that Fourth Brother does not vanish without a trace. She truly misses Lu Silang, the kind-hearted person who helps her financially is very likely him

Lu Silang let out a long breath, closed his eyes, and stood at the bow of the boat with his sword, no longer speaking

Suddenly, she held the Bodhisattva upside down and struck fiercely at the sideburns of the noble consort with the sharp edge.

She is willing to die in place of the noble consort

The Tang Emperor had a fondness for music and beauty, selecting three hundred talented performers and several hundred palace maids, establishing the teaching and performance halls of the pear garden

Why change it to her

Lu Liu'er was taken aback, and she stammered as she tried to explain: "I don't know, perhaps it fell on the stage?"

The fairy looks just like the noble consort! Qing'er, who lives in the inner court, said that she is older and luckier, having seen the sage and the consort from a distance. Seizing the rare opportunity to boast, she excitedly exclaimed, "When the consort dances, it is like that..." Most of the palace maids only began to learn culture after entering the palace. Coming from a farming family, Qing'er knows only a few characters, and she struggles to find the right words to describe, "The flying celestial beings in the murals, the Goddess of Mercy, Chang'e flying to the moon, the fairies dancing, ah, anyway, she is so beautiful that just one glance from her would make your bones feel weak." Qing'er, coming from a farming family, knows only a few characters, and she struggles to find the right words to describe, "The flying celestial beings in the murals, the Goddess of Mercy, Chang'e flying to the moon, the fairies dancing, ah, anyway, she is so beautiful that just one glance from her would make your bones feel weak."

Both the father and the palace maid Lu said that as long as one is kind and diligent in their work, and recites scriptures every day, there will come a day when heaven will show great mercy and happiness will descend upon her.

Time is limited, and Lü Silang said anxiously: "Once the sage escapes, the palace will be in chaos, and there will be no more rules. Stay here and do not wander around. I have instructed someone to take you out amidst the turmoil, to prevent you from being sullied by treacherous ministers and rebels. If the sage returns to the palace, he will surely not pay any attention to you, this inconspicuous little palace maid. I will seek help from others, build some connections, and perhaps you will be released from the palace."

The Mei Fei has been relegated to the Shangyang Eastern Palace for five years. Suddenly, the Sage recalled her and summoned her. Although the Mei Fei was somewhat bewildered about the reason for her return, the news that the Guifei had also been sent out of the palace was significant, sparking much speculation among everyone.

Everyone has their own future, and although fate is full of uncertainties, the feeling of being free and unrestrained is truly wonderful

Lu Silang has grown taller and is no longer thin and frail; he has developed the angles and contours that a man should possess. Although he cannot be described as exceptionally handsome, he is still quite good-looking. He has gained favor with General Chen Xuanli, achieved some merits, and begun to stand out, causing many palace maids to secretly admire him. However, the emotions behind palace regulations have no future, and they can only dare to gossip in private, lamenting their lack of fate in this life and praying for a good husband like him in the next life.

I am a shameless thief

"I have seen many naive girls like you," the old palace maid laughed heartily, "They all died, and they died tragically. You feel wronged and innocent? Back in the day, Xiao Hongying was also devoted to her master, but unfortunately, the sage looked at her a couple more times, and she was similarly framed with a crime and beaten to death. She was more innocent than you."

Two hearts that are intertwined, shattered into thousands of pieces

Five

Someone was sweeping the floor in silence and, when he passed by again on patrol, softly said: "No matter what she says, she is still my sister. If she is not doing well, how can I feel good about it? It would be more appropriate for you to inquire about Sister Lian's brother's illness and whether he has recovered."

Before she could finish scolding, Lu Silang had already walked far away. She stole a few glances at his back, and after observing for a while, she noticed that the ground was almost cleared of fallen leaves. Seeing the sun was scorching, she moved into the shade behind a tree to rest for a moment. Before long, Lu Silang returned on patrol, puzzled, and asked: "Where is everyone?"

At the first acquaintance, there is a sorrow in parting

These matters have nothing to do with the young maid; as long as she performs her duties honestly and does not make mistakes, that is sufficient. With this mindset, Lu Liu'er quietly sat in the corner doing needlework, embroidering a handkerchief for the noble consort. Suddenly, Chief Steward Gao approached, his face beaming with smiles, and said to her: "Miss, congratulations."

Lu Liu'er is without any background. She has heard many terrifying accounts of the beastly acts committed by the rebels, which fills her with fear. Her only hope is that the Laundry Bureau is too remote and insignificant, even the rebels look down upon it. Unexpectedly, just a few hours before the sage is about to depart, Lu Silang suddenly violates regulations and intrudes into the Laundry Bureau, finding her in a state of anxiety.

Occasionally, the noble consort would style her hair in a loose bun, forgoing all gold and silver jewelry, and simply inserting a large red peony. The next day, the peonies in the garden would suffer as all the palace ladies adorned themselves with large red flowers atop their heads, while the maidens wore silk peonies. As far as the eye could see, it was a row of blooming flowers. On days when the noble consort rose late, she would casually gather her soft black hair, donning a lazy hairstyle made of white fox fur and countless pearls, dressed lightly and exuding a charming languor. As a result, the following day, everyone would sport various lazy hairstyles made from different materials.

Your words are too nonsensical

Lu Liu'er felt wronged: "I do not have any flirtatious women."

Every time Lu Liu'er said "I didn't steal," she received a heavy slap in return

"Haha, all the reasonable people have died out," the old palace maid waved her fan even faster, "Do you think I look ugly? Back in the day, even His Highness the King of Tan wanted me. Just look at how I am now. Can you believe I came from a noble family, a flower of the palace in those days?"

In the Daming Palace, apart from the deeply revered Empress, even the palace maids and eunuchs overwhelmingly favored the Empress.

So it turns out that Sanlang finds the concubine old? The noble consort lightly struck him once, half shy and half annoyed as she spoke
